CAFO DONATES TOWARDS EXAM FEES
Thursday, 02 April, was a moving day for the Luderitz Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) as the Luderitz Church Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) Committee carried out yet another event in their favour. This time around, the committee donated an impressive N$17554 towards the exam fees and school development fund for 65 learners from the Luderitz Secondary School. The event took place in the staff room of the school, where the learners and their parents/guardians assembled to witness the handover of the donation from the Luderitz CAFO Chairperson Reverend Jan Scholtz to Mrs. Christelene Bester, Head of Department and Acting Principal.
Rev. Scholtz spoke on behalf the committee saying that as a branch of the Church Alliance for Orphans Head
Office, they are committed to supporting OVC and thus were happy to provide school fees as they had done in the past. CAFO’s goal, said Rev. Scholtz, “is to see all children in Namibia fulfil their God-given potential and thus it is our mission to build capacity and provide financial support for the education of orphans and vulnerable children.” Furthermore, Rev. Scholtz stated that there will be more activities to come this year as the committee must also address other issues such as psycho-social support, shelter and care, economic strengthening, food and nutrition, health, and children protection. In addition, Rev. Scholtz spoke directly to the parents, saying that the community must mobilize to assist the OVC so that “our children can have a brighter future.” “The ball is in your court,” remarked Rev. Schotlz to the assembled learners, “it is your
responsibility to work hard. There are no excuses now.” After thanking the entire Luderitz CAFO Committee
for their hard work and dedication, Rev. Scholtz officially handed over the check to Mrs. Bester, which prompted an excited applause from the audience. Mrs. Bester offered her utmost gratitude for the donation, and a jubilant parent also stood up to thank the committee and urge the learners to press on with their education. This donation of exam fees is just one of the many the Luderitz Church Alliance for Orphans Committee has already given and, as always, will continue to give so that our OVC receive the care they need. The committee calls on all community members to look into their hearts and offer their support in this great endeavor. All OVC and their parents or guardians are urged to visit the committee’s office in the Youth Centre to register and become eligible for benefits.
