Talking About My Generation

‘Today’s youth are tomorrows leaders’ is a phrase that is often heard in a modern day developing country like Namibia, but it is rare that reliable and comprehensive actions are then taken to reinforce these words.

How refreshing then, to see the plans for a really well conceived project; Lüderitz Youth League is a brand new proposal aimed at providing jobs and development for the younger generations in Lüderitz. Based on the concept of youth economic empowerment, the local-run organisation wants to focus on the next generations development in order to prevent Namibia from regressing backwards, and describes itself as ‘a beacon of hope’ for all Namibians who are proud to call themselves free and independent.

At present the organisation is looking to local SME’s to form a Corporate Social Investment Group which would then provide the youth project with feedback and financial support, not through donations (the group does not believe that hand-outs provide a constructive means to development) but through job creation for youths. Lüderitz Youth League would then launch its program which focuses on four key projects; a youth centre, an arts and crafts centre, a sports development centre and, their flagship project, a youth business forum, aimed at training and supporting young, youth-run businesses.

Lüderitz Youth League is a religious-based non-profit organisation run by local people.
