C.A.F.O Donate Foodstuffs To
Making a contribution to the orphans and vulnerable children of Luderitz this month, was the Church Alliance for Orphans. They handed over food during a presentation, the goods included jam, juice, rice, toothpaste, soup, roll-on, tea, coffee, cooking oil, macaroni, Vaseline, salt, sugar, top score, bread flour, sunlight soap and blankets.
All of this went to a 130 orphaned children from: Luderitz Secondary School (38), Nautilus Primary School (43), Diaz Primary School (17) and Helen van Rhyn Primary School (32). They also forwarded food stuff to 8 soup kitchens, including soup, potatoes, onion bags, cooking oil, and rice, which are also catering for the orphans in the community.
CAFO aims to help all churches and faith-based organizations in Namibia contribute to a national caring and supportive environment for Namibia’s orphans and vulnerable children. Activities to be promoted at the local level include community-based initiatives that provide material, spiritual and psycho-social supports for these children, so that they may develop resilience and cope with the challenges ahead.
Thus, as its mission, CAFO seeks to build capacity, and provide limited technical, administrative, and financial support to churches and other faith-based organizations in Namibia that are committed to the care and support of the orphans and vulnerable children in their communities.
Our committee is a branch of the CAFO Head Office, which stands for Namibia’s Church Alliance for Orphans – a national interfaith networking organization that is dedicated to the development and sustainability of support programmes for orphans and other vulnerable children. Our goal is to see all children in Namibia fulfil their God – given potential and thus it is our mission to build capacity and provide financial support for the education of orphans and vulnerable children. Our programme budget is divided into the fields of education and vocational training, psycho-social support, shelter and care, economic strengthening, food and nutrition, health, and children protection, and hence there will be more activities from us later in the year.
In order to reach this goal, we have made numerous donations in the past, such as blankets, toiletries, school uniforms, shoes, stationary, and food for soup kitchens. Therefore, we as the local CAFO Committee are still committed in our response to the needs of Orphans and Vulnerable Children. Although we receive a great deal of our funding from the Umbrella Body, I must tell you that funding programs and support structures financially is a very big task because:
1. Funding is not only scarce due to the overwhelming global need for orphan support.
2. But these funds come with specific targets and aims.
Therefore we as stakeholders will still mobilize our community so that we can become of hope for you, the orphans and vulnerable children in every community.
The Chairman of the Luderitz CAFO Committee would like to thank the entire committee (both church leaders and community members) for their hard work, dedication and compassion. Despite having their own full time jobs, they have gone the extra mile to make this donation possible.•
