Do To Others As Though You Were The Others
By: Revd. Jan Scholtz
An eastern stable
A starlit night
When God’s eternal light
Shone in the darkness
Of a cheerless world-
A child divine was born
In human form
Like all others
As though he were the others
Reared in poverty
Living in humility
Dying in ignominy
Rising in victory
God’s only Son
With humankind one
Sharing abundant life
With all others
As though he were the others
In a world past caring-
Sin-stained
Power-ridden
Poverty-stricken-
Christ’s coming means sharing
God’s redeeming grace,
Revealed in an infant’s face,
With all others
As though we were the others.
A Christmas congregation
Sings in expectation
“Peace on earth and mercy mild”
When and where?
In a broken home in Namibia?
In strife –scarred community?
In a impoverished community?
Only when we do to others
As though we were the others .•
