Cancer Association

Gardening can be quite an effort in Luderitz and flowers struggle to survive here. But I have had the pleasure of seeing a couple of flowers in bloom in town. Please bear with me as I don’t know all the names of the flowers and if I leave out any, well I hope to get to know all the flowers names in the near future. However, due to my source being a bit evasive when I asked her the names of the flowers, she will now know why I needed to know them. One of those flowers happens to have the name Sankie Klose and this flower is always open, when we need a place for clothes to be dropped off, when we need a pudding to be baked, she is always willing and available. And the garden is a lot bigger than we think here in Luderitz, we have hidden and newer varieties of flowers all the time. A flower called Melanie Calaça, Ingrid Morgan, Maritza Morgan, Cheryl Ebstein and newer flowers called Joan James and Liz. But as I said I only know a small part of the garden. Then again we lose flowers all the time, some get picked like Jacob De Wee and we will miss that flower in the garden, but he has been planted in a bigger garden and will be well looked after there. Other flowers are transferred to another garden like Malinda Nel who made the garden complete like our current flowers. But believe me there are other flowers out there that I would like to know. The flowers that need a bit of support, care, and a hand to hold or a shoulder to bear some of their sorrows.

And normally at this stage of the update I speak money, but I think that I will give it a miss this month as people are far more important than money. People are the essence of our existence here in Luderitz. The Nest Hotel and its staff that open their doors and hearts yearly for us to hold our Cup 4 Cancer. The Yacht Club that hosted our Valentines lunch for us. The people that came to join us for lunch. Yes, thousands of children’s lives are interrupted yearly by cancer and just because you came to lunch, you helped. Martina Syvertsen was the lucky person to adopt the doll that Joan Brown so kindly donated for us to raffle. Oh yes, and then there are those half sized people…I believe from a school called Montessori and to be honest they really go out of their way for us…well done and keep it up. Dries from Neo Paints has been kind enough to transport our larger stock for us…thank you. Unfortunately due to reasons (rain, floods, drought) the Apple Day has been moved from May to July… keep a note in your diary. Then we were thinking that a good day for you to SHAVE your head would be the 27th February. The exact location of this event will be cleverly thought out by a team of people. Hmmm…definitely need to find out where. So for a mere cost of $30 for adults and $20 for kids we will get rid of your hair for you. Then again, like me there are those out there who don’t like being bald…man I look ugly without hair! We can get our heads painted…no not with Neo Paints… Well before I end off, please remember this is Sun Smart Month, so cover up or use sunscreen to protect yourselves and your loved ones.

Oh, I need a list of all those flowers out there…even those who feel like they are withering…
