Steps Ahead
On Saturday 13th March Brightstart Montessori School held their annual fun walk. This year the children, parents and teachers took a less travelled route out to Diaz Point which was a 12.5km walk. Children from the pre-primary, lower elementary and upper elementary classes all did the sponsored walk to raise money for the school, leaving school on the bus at 7.30am. Teachers and parents acted as marshals all along the route and patrol cars kept an eye on everyone. The first students to arrive at Diaz Point were Liam Mitchell and Joy-Sam Ita, who ran the majority of the route. The second group that arrived consisted of Zara Mitchell, Sonet Smith, Karina Zavitaev, R.J Hummel and Oliver Metzger, and the third person to arrive was Nikita Basler who is a grade 1 student. All the other children did very well too, most of them managing to walk the whole way and some of the smallest children walking up to 10km. Some members of the upper elementary class then slept over at Sturmvogelbucht with three of the teachers and some parents, where they played games and had a campfire. The day was enjoyed by everyone, and the exciting route was appreciated.
