Tackling T.B. Together
On Tuesday 30th March a TB day was held at the clinic to raise awareness of tuberculosis and introduce the field promoters. Field promoters are the people employed to go into the community and educate people about tuberculosis, look for risk areas and test for the disease; if a person is diagnosed as positive it means they can receive treatment quickly, thanks to this programme.
The programme was introduced in April 2009 and started in August of the same year. The Rotary Club donated a container to the project, so that DOT (Directly Observe Treatment) can be undertaken; the container was opened by the Regional Councillor, David Shoombe. Also in attendance was the headmaster of Diaz Primary School, who is also the President of Luderitz Rotary Club, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor and the regional councillor, David Shoombe. Prisoners from Luderitz prison also put on a TB related play, and then received T-shirts. All the attendees received lunch packets.•
