OVCs Overjoyed

On the 24th of April there was a handover of clothes to Luderitz’s orphans and vulnerable children, organised by Pastor Tony. The handover had to be performed in two sessions due to the sheer amount of children, the first session for thirteen year olds and below commenced at 2.30pm and all the children received two items of clothing each. The youths, aged fourteen and upwards arrived at 3pm to collect their donated clothing.
The church does not currently have enough chairs to accommodate all the children as they are still waiting for People In Need to donate some. There are conditions for being an OVC, a child classed as an orphan has two deceased parent or one deceased parent and the one remaining is unable to provide for them. A vulnerable child is a child with unemployed parents who are unable to take care of their children properly. Interviews are conducted with the parents and children, and death certificates need to be provided before a child or youth receives anything.
The ceremony started with motivating choruses of ‘We are the brothers’ and ‘There’s no one like Jesus’, followed by an evaluation of the previous weeks teachings. Every Saturday the OVC s attend a teaching session, learning things like God is eternal, he is also three people but one God; the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. Pastor Tony drew a simile to a triangle; it has three corners but is one thing. This was followed by the handing over of clothes, which are all donated and those that were left were given to caregivers on the following Monday. •
