Brightstart’s Shining Stars
To end my year in Luderitz on a high I decided to produce a play (with a lot of help from Hannah), with Brightstart Montessori School’s lower elementary class. In the end three upper elementary students were involved too as they got promoted to the next grade mid-production.
The children came up with the set, characters and storyline and I wrote the play around their ideas. The characters travel from a library, to a spaceship, then under the sea, followed by Egypt, a jungle, a haunted castle and finally back to the library.
In early June rehearsals began and the play was put on at the school on July 29th. Other Brightstart students and the performers’ families and friends came to watch the fruits of all their labour, as well as to donate some money towards Valombola Kindergarten who desperately need the financial help in order to fund necessities like paper and pencils.
The rehearsals were a lot of hard work but thankfully it all paid off and there are definitely some budding actors and actresses in the class, I hope I have sparked an interest for drama in some of them. It was a great end to my time here in Luderitz and I’m grateful to everyone that helped.•
