Special Day for OVCs

The 29th of May was a very special day for children from all over Luderitz and a landmark for those involved in the Empowerment Centre for Vulnerable Children. It was the first celebration of Orphans and Vulnerable Children Day at St. Peter’s Hall in Nautilus and proved to be a great success with over 150 people attending.
Pastor Mishael Diabuna of St. Peter’s Church and Pastor Tony Mbundu of the Evangelical Baptist Church joined forces nearly a year ago after Pastor Tony sent out letters for help with his organisation. They decided that they should work together to bring about a day which focussed on the OVC’s and united their congregations.
The hall was beautifully decorated with gold, green and white balloons and there were several entertaining acts put on by the children of the Burning Fire Ministries such as the Sunday School Choir and the Dance Troupe. Sr. Penny Shatilwe organised a bible quiz where the children got a chance to win prizes and there were many inspiring sermons given on the importance of respect as a child.
The main event was the presenting of gifts, generously donated by Samaritan’s Purse in America, handed out by Pastor Tony and Mme Inge Ipinge instead of the Mayor, who unfortunately could not attend.
The Empowerment Centre would like to extend thanks to all those that attended, Namport for sponsoring the refreshments and all those that took part in organising the event and making it a reality.•
