Tenth Year of Apple Project
For the tenth consecutive year Bank Windhoek is sponsoring the Cancer Apple Project, held throughout Namibia to promote healthy living and reduce the risk of cancer. The theme for the 2010 Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project is ‘Eat Healthy. Live Healthy. Prevent Cancer’.
Apple week is from 12th-16th July, in which apples will be delivered, along with the bookmarks that feature important tips on healthy living, as well as the top four recipes from the 2008 and 2009 apple recipe competition. The bookmarks and apples cost N$3 which goes to the Cancer Association. The project has been up and running this year from May 26th and the last orders and payments were in on June 25th.
The Apple Project has been very successful, since its inception in 2000 over N$4.5 million has been raised for the Cancer Association, last year N$1 million was raised through the Apple Project and the aim for this year is to reach that total again. The money raised goes to caring for Namibians suffering from cancer, and more importantly, raise awareness about cancer.
To rouse support for the apple project the Luderitz branch of Bank Windhoek currently has a window display of Namibian cancer sufferers and those who are unfortunately no longer with us due to the disease. The photos were donated by the sufferers’ families and the display was created by Elize Du Toit. There are also photos of children who are currently suffering from cancer enjoying trips organised by their hospital ward.•
