Lutheran and Catholic Kindergarten Matching Grant Project

In November 2008, the German Rotary Club of Wetzlar (Hessen) and the Rotary Club of Luderitz started a project to assist the Lutheran and the Roman Catholic Kindergartens in the harbor town of Luderitz, to upgrade these two facilities.

Rotarians I. Morgan and G. Kessler where assigned to drive the project. Both kindergartens were supplied with a safe playground, educational toys, books, a computer, cooking facilities, a fridge, mattresses and blankets etc. The project had a total value of Nn$ 200 000.00 and was finalised in October 2010. Connecting the electricity supply and removing rocks from the playground were 2 factors to overcome.
The President of RC Wetzlar (Rotarian Wilfried Lotz) travelled to Luderitz in 2009 and 2010 to witness the project before and after the Kindergartens were transformed.

The Rotary Club of Luderitz has identified the opportunity to join forces with international partner clubs who have funds to assist projects in Luderitz where there is always a need for assistance.

Over the last 2 years, the Rotary Club of Luderitz has arranged a secondhand fire wagon that was fully equipped from Germany, they have built and installed a school bakery to provide scholars with daily bread, they supplied 2 container clinics for TB patients, revamped the children’s ward and maternity ward in the state hospital and are currently busy with more projects to serve the Luderitz community.
