Is Life Going Too Fast?

I want you to think of cars racing around a track. They don’t know how fast they’re going because all the others are going at the same speed. They need to slow down so that they can see things more clearly. So that they can take time to look at the more important things… the beautiful things.
Now apply this to life. Most of you will get up in a morning and rush around, scoffing your breakfast, hurrying in and out of the shower, and speeding out the door and off to work. Why do we do it? Is it the habit of being in a routine? Or do we just need a wake-up call that tells us we’re lucky to be alive? If you have kids, you’ll remember the day they were born and yet look at them now… they grow up faster than you can imagine! Time is forever falling behind us and we have moments that we will never get back again. Good times and bad, they all make us who we are today.
Compared to the billions of years the Earth has been here, our individual lives are the blink of an eye. Think about the last meal you ate. Did you taste it? Savour it? Or did you wolf it down without a thought in your mind about where it came from, who made it into what it was or how it was done? We need to remind ourselves to cherish the small things in life, even if it’s just a ‘please’ or ‘thank you.’
Applying this to myself, I can’t believe how fast my time in Luderitz is going so I’m going to tell myself to slow down and stop taking for granted the things that I usually do. Whether you’re reading this drinking coffee at home or walking down the street, take a look around you and treasure everything and every moment. None of us will be here forever. •
Jess Christiansen.
