Karas U-OA Roadshow 2011
Every year Luderitz Secondary School hosts an event for the new grade eight learners called The Green Concert, which this year was held on 4th February in The German Hall. The concert allows new students to show their talent, potential & beauty.
This year was hyped up a lot, so was very busy from early on in the night. The youngsters were jamming to the pre-concert music getting the vibe pumping right up until it began. Two girls opened the show with a duet which set high standards from the start. Next up was The Hot Chilli Peppers who “needs no introduction.” When the five girls who made up the dance act cam on stage, the students went wild.
Next up was the Parade, the main aspect of the concert, which had thirteen contestants consisting of both girls and boys. The first part of the parade was casual wear and each student swaggered down the catwalk in their outfits getting rated by the panel of judges. The next was formal wear and they were certainly dressed to impress in this category! Finally they were asked to construct an outfit out of green plastic bags. They were all very creative and a lot of thought had gone into each one. Some of them were very humorous and others were very impressive. Who would have thought that plastic bags could be turned into fashion?
Another dance act that wowed the audience was The Vibes. The six girls that put the act together danced their socks off and each showed off their talent with a promiscuous solo as well as dancing as a whole group. Kids, young and old, had their eyes glued to them and when asked why he had come to the concert, Tamson Williams from Brightstart School answered: “We are here to have fun!” It was a very fun night for everyone.
By the end of the concert it was decided that Mrs Green would be Bianca Isaacs and Mr Green would be Sergio Isaacs. A very successful night all in all and we hope that 2012 will be just as jam packed with talent and potential as this year was. A school that can really support each other in this way is quite rare to see and the atmosphere was positive throughout the night with a real sense of community. •
