FIND YOUR HAPPY MEDIUM

We all go through times when we need some sort of release. Whether it is the stress of family and friends, work and colleagues, money or lack of, or even if it’s just ‘one of those days.’

We all have things that we do to give us this release. It could be Art where we paint until we have put our feelings into an abstract pattern on a canvas. It could be Music where we play in tune to how we feel. It could be Exercise to free our mind of negative feelings. It could be putting pen to paper and having a personal counselling session with ourselves. Our beliefs, if religious, can be used to remind us that there is someone looking out for us in whatever we do. If it is there, we might need Love to lift our spirits, a bit of TLC never did anyone any harm. Whatever it is that inspires us as individuals can be used to cleanse our souls and prompt us to remember that there are always people who are worse off than us.

For me, Yoga is a release, a form of meditation that acts in the same way as running does for athletes, praying is for the religious and dancing is for performers. We have to find that something that appeals to our souls. Sport has not really played a huge part in my life but exercise has always had an effect on me that makes me feel unsullied. It is an example of how we all find that happy medium.

I ask myself, is it our mind or our soul that needs release? The mind is corrupted by our society in ways that we don’t even realize and our body is always changing but our souls remains the same. Our souls are permanent and as The Vedanta-Sutra says, “The human form of life is meant for searching out the spirit” – so when we try and find that release, we are searching out the spiritual principles within this material world.

We can all get wrapped up in this fast paced world and forget sometimes to just let go or even to stop and think. Life in Luderitz is far from fast paced compared to places like the UK where people rush about from one place to another starting from the minute they wake up to the minute their head hits the pillow at the end of the day. Yet still, the human race in general will always have a fast pace and as people say ‘life goes too fast!’ We have to make the most of the time we have and if we can’t find the release our souls needs, we can be stuck in this never ending flow of traffic until we reach our very final destination where there is no turning back. So go out there, find your happy medium and catch a glimpse of your human spirit•
