WHY LUDERITZ?

Hans and Irmela Rohlwink from Swakopmund have lived in Luderitz for 5 years and have decided to move on, so The Buchter News talks to them about their time here.
At a first glance anybody can tell that they are a happy couple yet there is even more to their relationship than just that. The pair of them are contractors that have happily worked and been together for 13 years. They came to Luderitz planning to stay for the short time of 9 months to build the sewage plant, but from there found more and more work until they ended up here for 5 years.
The contribution they have given to Luderitz has ranged from industrial buildings, to doctors rooms, to the new ENGEN garage, to slipways, to flats and also the life and soul of any party they attended. When asked why we are going to miss them, Hans replied: “well, I don’t know about us but they will definitely miss our Saturday Braai’s at the Yacht Club!”
Once back in Swakopmund they have big development plans for a project they started before they came to Luderitz by the river, which they are determined to finish. It is an exciting time for them, yet also a sorry one. For them, Crayfishing will be a thing of the past and the great friends they have made here will be miles away but not forgotten and it just means more holidays for them. Bonus.
Sadly, Buchters are going to miss them very much but they are both staying optimistic by saying that once they leave “one eye will be crying but the other will be laughing.”•
