Catch that Crayfish!
After the previous good Cray fishing season, we are at that time of the year again where the new season begins! It started on the 1st of November and ends on the 30th of April. We asked sea fisheries for the rules and regulations to avoid prosecution.
Grosse Bucht has been re-opened to fisherman and from Dias Point to North East Point(North of Flamingo Island) has been closed off. If you intend on catching crayfish anywhere near Halifax Island please make sure that you stay at least 200 metres away from the Island as it is the home and breeding area to the threatened African Penguin and we do not wish to disturb them.
The maximum number of Crayfish that you may catch a day is seven. You may not take out fish in berry or fish less than 65 millimetres in size- measured from between the eyes to the end of the body i.e excluding the tail.
Don’t forget your permit costing a mere N$14 per month. You can pick up a timetable showing indications of when high and low tide is expected at reception when purchasing your permit, at the Ministry of Fisheries.
Enjoy your catch!
